Tom Leonard in memoriam - contributors

Dorothy Alexander was mentored by Tom Leonard at the University of Glasgow from 2001 to 2006 (MLitt and PhD). She lives and works in the Scottish Borders.


Jim Ferguson lives and writes in Glasgow. Website: jimfergusonpoet.co.uk. He is the author of several books. New collection of poems Weird Pleasure due out in 2020 from Leamington Books.


Jane Goldman is Reader in English Literature at Glasgow University and likes anything a word can do. Her poems have been published in Adjacent Pineapple, Gutter, Scree, Stand, Tender, Zarf, and elsewhere. Her first slim volume was Border Thoughts (Leamington Books, 2014), and her new collection SEKXPHRASTICS is forthcoming with Dostoyevsky Wannabe.


Peter Manson lives in Glasgow.  His books include Adjunct: an Undigest, Poems of Frank Rupture and (as translator) Stéphane Mallarmé: The Poems in Verse.  More at petermanson.wordpress.com.


nicky melville’s latest book is ABBODIES COLD : SPECTRE (Sad Press); THE IMPERATIVE COMMANDS will be published with Dostoyevsky Wannabe in 2021. He recently started making demos under the name Fuck This.


Theresa Muñoz is a Canadian poet and academic living in Edinburgh. She is Research Associate at the Newcastle Centre for Literary Arts at Newcastle University, where she also teaches Creative Writing. She holds a PhD in Scottish Literature for her thesis ‘Alienation in the work of Tom Leonard’, where she was an Overseas Research Scholar. She has published one collection of poetry, Settle, which was shortlisted for the Melita Hume Poetry Prize. Her work has appeared in Ambit, Poetry Review, Canadian Literature, A Year Of Scottish Poems, and many other places. In 2018 she won a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship, and a Muriel Spark Centenary Award to write a sequence on the life, legacy and letters of Muriel Spark.


Rodney Relax has lived and worked in Edinburgh since 1992. He co-founded The Yellow Cafe a poetry/music event with Jonathan Harker (1994-2007). His pamphlet Cubitt, if Cubitt Knew was published by Whirlpool Press in 2011. He was co-founder of poetry duo ShellSuit Massacre with nicky melville, and then Northern Upland Sheep Strategy with musician Martin O’Donnell. Rodney is currently working with visual artist SPK as Second Space, which works with poets/artists to create videos incorporating the themes of their poetry/music. There are currently #22 videos on the Second Space YouTube channel. This year may see the appearance of a Rodney Relax vinyl LP.

 

Gerry Smith is an intermedia artist interested in writing as a visual art form, as well as our interactions with everyday technologies. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh (2017), was elected as Professional Member of the Society of Scottish Artists (SSA) in 1999 and was an SSA Council member from 2017 to 2020. He has curated thetextisthetext (2011), Re:Write (2000) and Textured (1999); had work exhibited in Text Art shows in China (Text Art, 2015), Scotland (I Am Not A Poet, 2011) and Germany (Only Words, 2007); and numerous group shows, including eleven SSA Annual Open Exhibitions. He has exhibited several ‘E-lit’ works in the UK and Ireland and his animation Noise (2011) was included in the ELMCIP European Anthology of Electronic Literature (2012).
